Connections
A connection is mutual: you can message each other once a request is accepted. Ignoring a request is silent; the sender only ever sees “not answered”.

Introductions
When someone can’t ask another member directly, they can ask a member who knows you both to introduce them. Passing it on lets their request through; not passing it on is quiet: nobody else is told.

Ask a member to connect
You can ask people in your network or in a community with you. For anyone else, ask a mutual connection for an introduction.
Blocked members
They can’t see you or reach you, and you don’t see them. They aren’t told.
