My profile
No name or email is kept here: those stay with your sign-in. For each field, choose who besides you can see it.
Your member id
Other members can type this into a field that asks for "The member’s id", for example to ask you to connect or to introduce someone.
What the public record says about you
Your works, co-authors and institutions, from the public research record (OpenAlex), so you never have to type your publication list.
For example “the 2019 paper isn’t mine” or “I left Wits in 2020”. It is kept with your profile, apart from the public record. Leave out email addresses and phone numbers.
Your data
Download everything Communities holds about you as one JSON file: your profile and its versions, connections and requests, communities, invitations and introductions. Your name and email aren't in it: they stay with your sign-in.
Erase my account
Erasing your account ends your membership for good. Your profile becomes a tombstone: every field is emptied and only your member id and the dates of the erasure are kept. Your connections, community memberships, introductions and notices end, and invitations you sent that nobody has used are withdrawn.
Messages you sent stay, shown as from a former member. Your OpenAlex author ids are opted out, so nobody can invite you again. Your published papers stay in OpenAlex: they are public and not ours to erase.
A Heuristic Systems admin confirms the erasure within the period our legitimate-interest assessment sets; once you ask, the date it is due by is shown here. Download your data first if you want a copy.
